Album Review 700: Paul McCartney – Ram

100

Jake: 100/100

Tom: 100/100

Verdict: The definitive Paul McCartney solo record; This is a must listen for all music enthusiasts, present and future.

Overview:   McCartney’s second solo album, Ram, is one of those albums that makes you feel like a kid on Christmas morning whenever you listen to it.  It’s remarkably playful and fun, while remarkably well written and crafted as an album listening experience.  Several of the tracks on Ram are some of VIMTV’s favorites of all time.  This record may take a few listens to get into and will definitely take quite a few more to truly appreciate due to it’s eclectic, frivolous nature on the surface.  Those who are willing to dive into the details of Paul’s excellent musical craftsmanship will be rewarded with a truly genre-defining, timeless experience.  It’s been 40 years and we’ve heard few albums written since that top this masterpiece.

Album Review 699: Paul McCartney – NEW

77

Jake: 75/100

Tom: 78/100

Verdict: Classic Paul McCartney solo record with clear highlights and occasional letdowns.

Overview:   New is Paul McCartney’s return to the true, pop legend vein of his studio work. This record hits hard with monumentally fun tracks. “Save Us” and “Alligator” providing a running start to carry the listener through a hook-craft carnival ride. New stretches every corner of contemporary pop music and McCartney adds his signature voice and vocal hooks to each track. It’s hard not to love this record; Paul is certainly an expert at writing melodies that refuse to leave your head. While some of these songs are certainly stronger than others, New has a lot to offer even the casual Paul McCartney fan.
