Overview: Down There is experimental to the truest form of experimentation. The sound is very swampy and overloaded with effects, filters, and delays, some of which enhance the album while others bog it down without much justification. We didn’t feel that this album is particularly strong in the songwriting department, but that also doesn’t seem to be what Avey Tare was going for; he was going for atmosphere, and he nailed it. Still, while Down There is a fun and interesting listen, it doesn’t go much beyond that for us and probably won’t keep the listener coming back for more.
