VIMTV Album Review #353: Battles – Gloss Drop

Jake: 79/100

Tom: 79/100

Verdict: Recommended if you’re looking for complex, experimental rock with great production and instrumentals. You have to be in the mood for something fast-paced and not expecting a lot of depth.

Overview: Gloss Drop feels like a logical next step from Battles’ 2007 debut, Mirrored. The production and technical chops are better than ever, and that hectic-yet-fun feel is taken to the max. The only real downside to this album is that it feels more like a series of impressive experiments than a cohesive piece– the album never builds momentum as a whole. Still, there is an allure to this record, and this band in general, that will make it hard to press stop.
