VIMTV Album Review #337: Cass McCombs – Wit’s End

Jake: 93/100

Tom: 77/100

Verdict:  Recommended if you like slow-moving folk music with a lot of repetition and refrains rather than choruses. You’re probably going to need a lot of patience for this one, but if  you’ve got it, then it will be very enjoyable.

Overview: Wit’s End is structured more like a set of classical compositions injected with folk instrumentals than a folk-pop album. These tracks are long and very slow, but as long as you’re not the type who gets bored by music like this, the length allows the songs to wash over you and suck you in. We have a feeling that this one will be hard for people to really dig, but even if you don’t, there’s still a lot of good music on here that is well worth checking out.

Jake’s Track Picks:

  • 2. The Lonely Doll
  • 3. Buried Alive
  • 5. Memory’s Stain
  • 6. Hermit’s Cave

Tom’s Track Picks:

  • 1. County Line
  • 2. The Lonely Doll
  • 4. Saturday Song
