VIMTV Album Review #349: Elliott Smith – Elliott Smith

Jake: 83/100

Tom: 83/100

Verdict: Definitely recommended if you’re into lo-fi acoustic music with great depth. You’ve got to be able to appreciate the minimalist attitude, though.

Overview: Elliott Smith’s self-titled release is a collection of terrifically written acoustic songs, with Smith’s classic whispery and heartbroken vocals. For such a minimalistic approach, Smith does the best he possibly could with these tracks– the production accents the good aspects of each song, and there aren’t really any weak spots. Still, it is what it is, and as a wonderful acoustic record, it’s limited by it’s general lack of ambition. He obviously wasn’t shooting for the moon here, but what he was shooting for, he hit right on target.
