Flobots

VIMTV Episode #80: Flobots – Survival Story

Jake: Somewhat Recommended, 65/100

Tom: Recommended, 75/100

Overview: Like them or not, The Flobots are certainly a band with a mission. Apart from the message they give with their lyrics, they push rap forward by giving their songs complex instrumental foundations using real instruments, including violin. The way they use these instruments hardly even makes them a rap/rock band, as the instruments create more of a hip-hop than a rock atmosphere. Tom thinks that this is an impressive album, but that the effort hasn’t quite been pushed enough to make a perfected sound. Jake, on the other hand, respects what they’re doing with the style, but feels like the lyrical message is too inconsistent to warrant calling this a great album.

If you were unimpressed by this album, check out Fight With Tools. I find it a lot better than this one.
