The Fall

VIMTV Episode #259: The Fall – Hex Enduction Hour

Jake: Recommended, 77/100

Tom: Recommended, 74/100

Overview: Hex Enduction Hour is a staple of the post-punk scene. It’s an album full of intense, droning builds, and instrumentals that are as sloppy and loose as they are perfectly timed (in an oxymoronical kind of way). All this is topped by Mark E. Smith’s rambling, which in a strange way exerts control and authority over the chaos of the guitar, bass, and drums. Overall, we still would have liked a little more variety and tightness from this album, but it’s still a very good listen and a necessary experience if you want to understand the various music that it influenced years after and is still influencing today.

VIMTV Episode #173: The Fall – Your Future, Our Clutter

Jake: Not Recommended, 24/100

Tom: Not Recommended, 36/100

Overview: Mark E. Smith and co. have come out with a truly tough album to get into. For those who can access this random collage of samples, drum and bass driven grooves, and Smith’s drunken ranting, more power to you. But for us here at VIMTV, this just doesn’t cut it. It’s artsy without having a clear point, and that’s a tough sell.
