Heidecker & Wood

VIMTV Album Review #364: Heidecker & Wood – Starting From Nowhere

Jake: 59/100

Tom: 59/100

Verdict: Recommended if you like 70s soft-rock that isn’t very serious, not recommended if you’re looking for an album with a lot of variety or depth.

Overview: In a lot of ways, Starting From Nowhere sounds like the music that would appear in skits from singer Tim Heidecker’s show, Tim & Eric Awesome Show (Great Job!). Without the accompanying visuals, and when the songs go on for much longer than they would and are repeated eleven times, it certainly feels like something’s missing. While the duo are able to pull off the late 70s yacht-rock sound with astonishing ease, which is a decently impressive feat, it begs a big question: In 2011, is it worth making an entire album mimicking that sound?
