Lost in the Trees
VIMTV Album Review #472: Lost in the Trees – A Church That Fits Our Needs
Jake: 96/100
Tom: 87/100
Verdict: A must-listen album – be prepared for a demanding, moving listening experience.
Overview: A Church That Fits Our Needs is one of the most moving albums we’ve ever heard, not to mention well-written. Inspired by the death of front man Ari Picker’s mother, this sophomore album for the band is themed both lyrically and musically around the death. Haunting lyrics and passionate vocals drive the emotion home to the listener. But the real treat provided in this record are the string compositions that sweep in and out of each track, building to huge emotive climaxes. We also loved how this album was arranged into two sections and provocatively told the tragic story of Picker’s loss. You feel as if you are Picker himself, reliving the loss from his perspective. The songwriting is detailed and the brilliance behind it runs deep. Give this one several detailed listens and you will uncover one of the greatest albums to come out this year.
