The Lonely Island

VIMTV Album Review #346: The Lonely Island – Turtleneck & Chain

Jake: 72/100

Tom: 78/100

Verdict: Recommended if you enjoy potty humor and can tolerate generic club beats.

Overview: The Lonely Island is back with their second round of unforgettably hilarious tracks. The ironic beauty of this album is that it’s constantly ridiculing the very pop-culture that allows it to be popular in the first place, making it surface-level absurd along with a deeper “how-do-they-get-away-with-that?” aspect. There are definitely standout tracks and forgettable tracks, but the funniest moments will keep you laughing for days. So for what this album is going for, it succeeds– however, does this really stand up to some of the brilliantly ambitious music that’s coming out these days? Not quite, but it’s nice to see that The Lonely Island boys aren’t letting that stop them from having a good time, and more importantly, taking listeners with them.
