VIMTV Album Review #376: Marissa Nadler – Marissa Nadler

Jake: 80/100

Tom: 75/100

Verdict:  Recommended for anyone who enjoys folk music, but would like larger soundscapes and more mood.

Overview: Marissa Nadler is certainly taking her own approach to the female folk scene. Instead of focusing on hooks and raw, earthy tones, she emphasizes the mood with a sense of both confidence and delicacy. Every sound on this album feels completely deliberate and well-thought out, and yet it’s natural all the time. The only minor downsides are that it still lacks some originality in the bare songwriting (most of that comes in the way they’re presented), and the album as a whole lacks a cohesive feel. Still, this is a great pick for any fans of folk or just good ol’ female singer/songwriters.
