Verdict: Recommended if you enjoy synth-based indie-pop with a bit more maturity.

Overview: Mountaintops is certainly the sound of a band growing up. Thankfully for Mates Of State, that transition doesn’t feel forced, and it also doesn’t sacrifice any of the fun pop mentality that made their earlier work so instantly likeable. Still, it is what it is, and not every track jumps out at you, making this a recommended listen for sure, but probably not one of the best 2011 has to offer.
