Michael Head & The Strands

VIMTV Album Review #357: Michael Head & The Strands – The Magical World of the Strands

Jake: 73/100

Tom: 73/100

Verdict: Recommended if you like folksy-americana rock, a la Wilco, The Decemberists. Also, good luck finding this record anywhere.

Overview: The Magical World Of The Strands has some great songwriting and production, but we didn’t find it to be very gripping. Some of this comes from the flavorful, variety-providing moments to be few, but it also comes from Michael Head’s low-energy vocal performance. Not that he’s a bad singer by any means: he’s quite good, it’s just that his vocals don’t make the album build momentum. Still a good listen and recommended, so if you can somehow find a copy of this album, get it!
