Sharon Van Etten

VIMTV Album Review #444: Sharon Van Etten – Tramp

Jake: Recommended, 66/100

Tom: Recommended, 68/100

Verdict: A well-written album with a few downfalls. Recommended for fans of Wye Oak or The National.

Overview: Sharon Van Etten displays a lot of good songwriting skills on Tramp. The overall sound is very genuine and appealing, and it fits her songwriting style well. However, she doesn’t perform her vocals very strongly, and for that reason, we found that not much really sucked us into this album. The vocals are most prominent part of these songs, and yet they don’t command attention. Still, it’s a good album that a lot of people will like– we just had trouble getting into it.
