VIMTV Episode #152: Spoon – Transference
Jake: Recommended, 77/100
Tom: Recommended, 78/100
Overview: Transference is Spoon’s quirkiest album since their very early days. Not only in the lyrics and general songwriting, but also in the production. These guys are stripping the sound down to its rawest one moment, and then hitting you with some random delay or distortion the next. Hell– the songs don’t even bother to fade out or end in a conventional way! All these factors come together to create a very charming, relaxed, and unapologetic listen. The only true struggle with Transference will be whether this is a quality that can get into, or if you find it utterly self-indulgent.

VIMTV Episode #101: Spoon – Kill The Moonlight
Jake: Recommended, 76/100
Tom: Recommended, 74/100
-Requested by and dedicated to Greg Hatt
Overview: Spoon’s fourth release, Kill the Moonlight, was a huge success both critically and from fan response serving as a fantastic follow up to their hit album Girls Can Tell. Kill the Moonlight presents Beatlesque songwriting and fun catching melodies and hooks in a way that is pretty much always pleasing. Jake and Tom both like Spoon very much, but feel Kill the Moonlight is similar to most other Spoon albums (especially their later work) in that the music is too safe and that they are not making music that captures the band’s full potential. Still a solid release!

I think Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is definitely Spoon’s best album as it is more experimental, more varied, and thicker than albums such as Kill the Moonlight, which I found to be overrated, but still would have given a little more than you guys did. Probably about an 82/100. Still, I agree with everything you’ve said here.
