Overview: Stone Temple Pilots return after a nine year hiatus to release their self-titled album, which overall is quite a disappointment. Past work aside, this album isn’t very ambitious and sounds more like STP settling to make a “meh” album. If this was a band’s debut album it wouldn’t be getting any attention at all, showing that the band is really still riding their past success and releasing mediocre material. Still, the instrumentals are good, the vocals are decent, but there isn’t much variety and all the song structures are basically the same. This album could be much worse, but you can’t really call it “good.”
