Sunset Rubdown

VIMTV Episode #310: Sunset Rubdown – Random Spirit Lover

Jake: Recommended, 86/100

Tom: Recommended, 80/100

Overview: Random Spirit Lover is truly an album that you could spend your whole life listening to and still not fully appreciate. The depth of sonic layers and song structures that hardly ever repeat make this record nearly impossible to wrap your head around in under ten listens. At times, the production can be a bit too extreme in the indie lo-fi direction, and the vocals may turn some listeners off, but one fact remains: this album is dripping with an amount of creativity that can’t be denied.

VIMTV Episode #78: Sunset Rubdown – Dragonslayer

Jake: Recommended, 80/100

Tom: Recommended, 78/100

Overview: Dragonslayer is a dense piece of indie gold that struts its stuff with diverse song structures and song writing, artsy appeal and production and stream of conciousness lyrics.  VIMTV finds this album to be really solid; nothing that will blow you away, but a very high-quality album nonetheless.  Jake sited that the intriguing lyrics hint towards a storyline that really isn’t there but still provide the necessary catchy hooks and Tom loved the guitar work and production.  This album comes recommended, especially if you are a fan of true blue indie songwriting.
