They Might Be Giants
VIMTV Album Review #580: They Might Be Giants – Nanobots
Jake: 69/100
Tom: 72/100
Verdict: Not as good as some of the Giants’ earlier work but any They Might Be Giants album is always worth a listen.
Overview: Dear John Linell, please play the accordion more. They Might Be Giants present a very solid and well produced sound on their 16th album, Nanobots. We can definitely hear them experimenting with their instrumental palate, especially on the Apollo 18-esque tracks on the back half. It’s clearly evident that the songwriting is not quite as strong than on 2011’s Join Us or the Giant’s early works. Even the lyrical puzzles aren’t quite as intricate. Still, They Might Be Giants are a band unlike any other, and even their slightly weaker albums are still a blast to listen to.
Jake’s Track Picks:

- 20. The Darlings of Lumberland
Tom’s Track Picks:

VIMTV Album Review #383: They Might Be Giants – Join Us
Jake: 74/100
Tom: 78/100
Verdict: If you like quirky, experimental indie music with coy lyrics than pick this sucker up.
Overview: They Might Be Giants is all about the lyrics and Join Us does not break the mold. This record has 18 tracks to tantalize the listener with the Giants’ quirky, fun songwriting and while some tracks are a little forgettable, overall this is a solid release. If you’ve been following the band all along; this album doesn’t rival the band’s early work but still holds a worthy place in their extensive discography.
Jake’s Track Picks:
- 1. Can’t Keep Johnny Down
- 10. When Will You Die
- 15. Dog Walker
Tom’s Track Picks:
- 3. Old Pine Box
- 13. The Lady And The Tiger
- 15. Dog Walker
