VIMTV Album Review #519: Yeasayer – Fragrant World

Jake: 81/100

Tom: 83/100

Verdict: Highly recommended if you like dark, electronic music that flows as an album listen

Overview: Yeasayer’s third album Fragrant World takes the band in a denser, darker direction.  This record plays more as an album listen then its predecessor and from the get-go sets a pessimistic tone that says “this is serious.”  Yeasayer’s special touch when it comes to songwriting is still clearly evident except now the sound is more densely populated with electronic melodies and beats.  This album was a grower for us; the more we dug into it, the more we liked it.  This is definitely a great album that you should check out, just don’t go into it thinking it’s Odd Blood part 2.

VIMTV Episode #44: Yeasayer – Odd Blood

Jake: Highly Recommended, 94/100

Tom: Recommended, 78/100

Overview: Yeasayer have basically made a psychedelic masterpiece with their sophomore album “Odd Blood.” The instrumentals are quirky, eclectic, tight, and very electronic, while the moods range from spastic and fun to sentimental and meaningful. Tom thinks that the instrumentals are complex in a way that distracts at times from the great vocals, but Jake thinks the whole album is pretty close to perfect. Basically, if you like crazy, listen to this album.

This is really a great album… their debut album is also a bit different from this but every bit as good!
